Apple iPhone 15 Proβs Solid-State Volume Buttons Are Dead, Confirms Supplier
The long-speculated solid-state volume buttons for the iPhone 15 Pro will not be arriving, as per the recent announcement by Appleβs supplier Cirrus Logic.
Apple iPhone 15 Proβs Solid-State Volume Buttons Reportedly Scrapped
Rrumours have been circulating for months about the iPhone 15 Proβs solid-state volume buttons, and now it seems that the saga has come to an end. Multiple sources have recently reported that Apple has canceled the project, and a new piece of information almost confirms the rumours. Apple supplier Cirrus Logic recently revealed in a shareholder letter that a βnew product that we mentioned in previous shareholder letters as being scheduled for introduction this fall is no longer expected to come to market as planned.β
The product in question was of the HPMS variety, which includes the haptic drivers for Appleβs Taptic Engine in iPhones. If the introduction of solid-state buttons wasnβt canceled by Apple, the iPhone 15 Pro would come with two additional Taptic Engines to provide haptic feedback for the faux buttons.
According to long-time purveyor of Apple-related leaks and rumours Ming-chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 Pro wonβt have solid-state buttons after all due to βunresolved technical issues before mass production,β whatever that means. While the volume buttons will remain of the normal variety, the iPhone 15 Pro is still expected to debut the Action button to replace the ring/mute switch.
It remains to be seen if Apple has given up on the idea of solid-state volume buttons altogether. Analyst Jeff Pu believes that the company will simply push the introduction of the tech to next year and aim to have it debut in the iPhone 16 Pro. For now, however, it looks like the iPhone 15 Pro will stick to clickable buttons.
Pokdepinion: We wonβt see it now but weβre most likely seeing it next year. For now, this yearβs iPhone is already shaping up to be a pretty healthy upgrade, though thatβs mostly for the Pro models.
