WhatsApp Adds Highly-Requested Multi-Device Login Feature

The conventional wisdom for WhatsApp usage is to ensure active connection to the smartphone first – which is a bit of inconvenience for some people if their phones are not readily accessible. Over the time WhatsApp has slowly loosening the limits with automatic PC logins, but now the developer is announcing β€œa true multi-device experience” by allowing users to login to their accounts without needing active smartphone connections.

The feature is currently on beta – which currently allows up to 4 devices to concurrently sign in to the same account. WhatsApp says all active logins will be connected β€˜independently’ while maintaining the same level of security as before, as this is done through encrypted data syncing. If the primary device (usually the smartphone) remained inactive for an extended period of time, the account will be logged out automatically across all active devices.Β This should be great news for business users, which may require multiple personnel to serve customers if the user base is significant.

Also in this update is new login methods: instead of QR code scanning, now users can opt to enter phone numbers on WhatsApp Web clients instead and login using the one-time code provided. This will be used to link to the main device just like existing methods. The update will roll out in the coming weeks globally, so stay tuned.

Pokdepinion: I’ve seen cases where business accounts had to rely on one device just to respond customers – this should make it a whole lot more convenient for them.
