PlayStation 5 Will Support Current and Future PSVR Models

Recently, we got to learn a fair amount about the upcoming PlayStation 5. If you thought that Sony Interactive Entertainment has given up on virtual reality, then youβre gonna be in for a big surprise. In an interview with Wired, PlayStationβs own Mark Cerny had a bit to say on the PSVR department:
I wonβt go into the details of our VR strategy today beyond saying that VR is very important to us and that the current PSVR headset is compatible with the new console.
In essence, those of you who have purchase the PSVR wonβt have to feel like youβve wasted money. You can continue to use that if or when you decide to adopt their next-gen console. Not only that, it seems like they still have big plans for virtual reality-based games.
The PSVR was a surprising hit with gamers despite being less powerful than the likes of the HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. The affordability as well as a line of games made exclusively for the system made it a viable option for many gamers, especially since VR peripherals are pricey. With the buffed up hardware, it opens up even more possibilities in the virtual reality landscape.
Furthermore, the new 3D audio capabilities thanks to the AMD chip will make gaming in general more immersive, which will be particularly great for PSVR games. If you wanna know more about whatβs new in the PlayStation 5, click right here.
There is no set release date / window for the next-gen console just yet. However, we do know that it will not be coming in 2019.
