We Tried The vivo V30e 5G On A Trip To Selangorβs Tourist Hotspots
The latest member of vivoβs mid-range V series has arrived in the form of the new V30e 5G: earlier on, members of the media were invited for a trip to Pantai Remis, Selangor to check out this smartphoneβs capabilities, visiting some of the popular tourist spots around here.
So, thereβs a bit of βcoincidenceβ when it comes to this smartphone and the trip weβre involved with β the V30e 5G weβre holding here features a color that vivo calls βSky Mirrorβ, and some of you may know this seemingly familiar name.
Thatβs right, part of our trip includes visiting Sky Mirror located off the coast of Kuala Selangor, and with the light shining down the phoneβs chassis you can see the unique cloud-like texture that certainly attracts eyeballs. Given that this phone already comes at a very thin profile (just 7.65mm), the included transparent phone case, seen here, makes it easy to hold overall, with the bonus of extra grip. I certainly donβt want to risk dropping this accidentally in the middle of the oceanβ¦
Thereβs also a second color variant, Coco Brown, with a completely different look β ideal for those who prefer svelte-looking phones. (Note: all of us in the media were given the Sky Mirror variant of the V30e 5G throughout this trip.)
If you have been paying attention to vivoβs V series smartphones, thereβs one feature that you should be pretty familiar with β the signature ring-shaped Aura Light. Like its more powerful siblings, the V30e 5G features the same Aura Light 3.0 LED that, unlikely traditional LED flash, provides a soft lighting environment ideal for low-light situations. Because why get a separate ring light when itβs built right into the phone, right?
Of course, having an innovative lighting system is half the camera equation β the other half, naturally, are the cameras themselves. Here, the vivo V30e 5G shines with its 50MP Sony IMX882 sensor, and itβs a fairly capable shooter that doesnβt have us worried about the final quality of the photos taken. Here are a few images helpfully taken by the tour guide when weβre at the Sky Mirror (in other words, in the middle of the sea as the tide subsides):
One small detail that I personally find interesting is the βMicro Movieβ feature. TikTok-style short videos are all the rage these days, and Iβll admit β I barely touch TikTok myself. As I was contemplating installing apps like CapCut on the V30e 5G, I found this feature sitting in a corner within the camera app, so that got me intrigued about how itβll work in this scenario β i.e. in the middle of a trip.
While Iβm familiar with video editing in general, Iβve always used tools like Adobe Premiere Pro and the likes, which involve huge amounts of setup and fine-tuning that most people would have a hard time getting up to speed on. So, a short video is a bit of uncharted territory for me β I even brought my laptop along on this trip, just in case.
However, Iβm happy to report that the Micro Movie mode handled my short video editing needs like a champ. Not only does it deal with trimming and rearranging clips, but you can also add transitions and music right within the editor as well. Neat!
Looks and cameras aside, letβs talk about the basic stuff that makes for a smartphone β battery life, performance, durability, and all that. The vivo V30e 5G is pretty capable for a budget mid-range model: you get a 5,500mAh battery β more than the V30 Pro β paired with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC plus 8+8GB RAM that should carry you through most tasks reasonably well.
Remember when I mentioned I preferred a phone case just so I donβt drop the phone? Letβs say youβre the kind of person who prefers to forego the case, but your butterfinger tendencies have failed you. The V30eβs drop cushioning structure is designed to withstand over 100 1-meter drops according to vivoβs lab tests, and for rainy days β the IP64 ingress protection should get you reasonably covered.
The vivo V30e 5G is now available nationwide for the price of RM1,399 featuring the single 8+256GB configuration.
